Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine.
A naturopathic doctor is a primary care practitioner that seeks to restore balance to a person’s health by emphasizing the healing power of nature and focus on addressing the root causes of illness. Treatments are individualized for each and every person.
Naturopathic doctors can also complement and enhance health care professionals. They cooperate with other branches of medical science and refer patients for diagnosis or treatment when necessary.
In Ontario, naturopathic doctors must have an undergraduate education, then graduate from an accredited naturopathic institution and pass their professional licensing exams before practicing. Naturopathic doctors are regulated in Ontario.
